My Malaysian Inspiration : Elenna Jamil

Elenna Jamil is a homegrown Malaysian architect who studied in Cardiff University. How i first got to know about her, was through my own backyard. No, i did not meet her in my garden or any of the sort, if that is what you are wondering. I got to know of her by Desa Mahkota School here near Bandar Menjalara. This school is located just behind my apartment, i would pass it almost everyday.

What is so special about the school you ask?
It is said that this school is to change the whole typology of a school's architecture. For one, classrooms are arranged in a single bank and have openings on the windward and leeward side to allow maximum cross ventilation as we are living in the tropics.

Secondly, they have fins and overhangs that cover both sides, north and south, of a window to minimize glare from the morning and evening sun. Not only that the ceilings and floors are left bare to help with the regulation of temperature in the building.

This was the building that got me interested in this architect. But this is the house that made me fall in love with her and her style

Sepang House
This is the Sepang house. In my previous post, i've use this house as a source of inspiration. Well. thats because it is. This house is what i use to explain my dream house. It has all the architectural styles that i love combined. It is made mainly from concrete, brick and wood with essence of steel. On the inside it has a very open concept

It also gives a sense of warmth and homely-ness despite the emptiness and simplicity of it all. She has manage to capture it all.
